In January 2003, the refractories world market leader RHI Refractories decided to establish a second Chinese production site in Liaoningprovince in order to meet the constantly growing demand for high-quality refractory products in the region and to optimally satisfy customer requirements in the future. The harbor city Dalianwas chosen as it is located near the famous raw material deposits of Liaoningprovince and provides at same time excellent infrastructure and logistics. In July 2003, the ground breaking ceremony was held. Meanwhile all buildings and production facilities were finished in record time and the production trials are ongoing.

With the opening ceremony of the plant on November 30, 2004, one of the most modern refractories production sites worldwide of RHI Group will start production. With the conception of Innovative Service, our customers from the steel, non-ferrous metals, cement and glass industry will then be provided with top-quality burnt basic refractory bricks and services.

In a first stage, the RHI Refractories production site in Dalian will produce 40,000 tons of burnt refractory bricks annually for applications in industrial high-temperature processes of the basic industry starting in 2005.

The choice of location was based not only on the exceptionally positive overall economic development in the region, but also on the enormous potential and the long-term perspectives expected in the segment of high-quality refractory special products for which the highly advanced technology used by RHI Refractories will be crucial.
